Group Classes

Naomi's welcoming group class at Bristol Yoga Centre

We begin by checking in.

Each of my classes begins with a quick check in to see how your feeling, you can share as much or as little as you like.

Whether it's your first time or your one of the regulars, you are warmly invited to join my group classes.

I often hear people say they are not ‘good’ at yoga or they can’t achieve certain poses. I say that yoga is not a competition, so rather than focusing on how the postures look, we tune in to how they feel and the benefits they bring us.

I believe that yoga should be accessible to all, no matter what your economic situation. That’s why I’ve set up lower priced Community Classes and Donation Based Classes.

Please see check my timetable, or class descriptions below.

Somatic Movement & Yoga

Wednesdays 12:15 - 1:00pm

community class

Yoga for all ages and backgrounds. Accessible yoga and somatic movement.

This class will be beneficial for people with chronic pain and fatigue or those recovering from injury or illness. It’s also great for beginners and those that just want to take it slow and cultivate mindfulness. We will look beyond the outer form and cultivate an internal awareness.

The class will be very relaxing and at the same time revealing, it will gently expose our habits and how we commonly move.

You’ll often be encouraged to practice with your eyes closed to minimise sensory stimulations and to take plenty of breaks in-between. This will help you to feel, absorb, and digest your experience and notice any changes from the practice. Much of somatic practice is done on the floor or in sitting, but most importantly you’ll be asked to find a comfortable position that suits you.

Gentle Yoga

People often think that yoga is all about postures and movements, but it’s more to do with your ability to find relaxation and focus. It’s about deep listening and connection, rather than doing and forcing. You’ll get nowhere by pushing and pulling because you cannot force connection.

In our modern society, achievement and goals are often valued more than simply being. However, allowing time to absorb and digest our experience is essential for cultivating a peaceful mind.

Simply being comfortable with yourself is one of the most valuable things that we can nurture.

Gentle yoga helps you to become more aware of subtle sensations and instil sensitivity. The slower paced practice gives us the opportunity to forge these connections and in turn get to know ourselves better. When we feel comfortable and safe, our mind and body will effortlessly open and soften, enabling us to listen to the wisdom within.

Yoga

Naomi teaching a more dynamic yoga class.

We will share a rounded yoga practice, generally starting in a seated position or lying down. Then we’ll visit well known postures, but it will always stay fresh as we try new movements, breath, sound and self-massage.

Often there will be a theme, such as balance, heart opening or inversions that we will explore together. There will be points where you may challenge yourself to work a little harder or stretch a bit deeper, I’ll encourage you to ‘find your edge’ and see what is working for you today.

Each posture we practise will be an invitation, and they can always be adapted to suit you.

There will be moments of quiet where we can tune in and feel the benefits and usually a lovely savasana at the end.

This class is suitable for all levels of students including beginners.

Mindfulness Meditation & Yoga

Mondays 7:15 - 8:15pm community class

Wednesdays 10 - 11am donation based

‘Mindfulness is the key to the present moment. Without it we cannot see the world clearly, and we simply stay lost in the wanderings of our minds’

- Joseph Goldstein

Through mindfulness meditation, gentle movement, breathing and relaxation techniques, we will explore how to truly be with ourselves so that we can connect and grow with steadiness and ease. We will learn simple and effective techniques to be more present and mindful in our practice and everyday life.

We’ll use gentle stretches and asanas to settle the mind and body in preparation for mediation.

I will focus on different themes, such as the importance of breath in learning how to relax. We also set aside some time to discuss how it’s going so that people learn from each other. I believe that students really benefit from sharing experiences and it helps to create a wonderful communal feel.

The classes have given me a sense of spaciousness and sensitivity to my responses to daily life and I have felt able to be more peaceful, focused and in tune with myself and others.

Vision Yoga

Fridays 12:15 - 1pm community class

My unique blend of natural vision therapy and yoga. These classes will explore the intimate connection between eyes, mind and body. I’ll share gentle exercises to help your visual system work harmoniously.

This class is suitable for all levels of students including beginners.
