My Story
I have been close to yoga for as long as I can remember.
My mother began teaching before I was born, so yoga was around in our house from the beginning. She came to the practice after a motorcycle accident left her with a broken back. The doctors told her she wouldn’t be able to walk again, but through years of mindful practice she made a full recovery, and I saw the healing firsthand.
As I grew up, my own practice developed and yoga began to support me. I got a serious knee injury (ACL and Meniscus tear), and was told I wouldn’t recover without surgery, but I believed in my body’s ability to heal. Through my careful practice I too made a full recovery!
I took a BWY Foundation course in 2003 which was the start of a lifelong study to develop my practice. I started teaching in 2004 at yoga centres, gyms and universities across Bristol. When I saw how my students benefited, I wanted to make yoga accessible for all.
I taught Community Exercise for older people at Bristol University, Pre and Postnatal classes, one to one for students in wheelchairs, people who were registered blind, and even a hen do. I’m honoured that many of these students have grown with me and are still attending my classes.
I began my connections with Bristol Mind who I support through fundraising and charity events. Mental health and physical wellbeing are so deeply connected, and wanted to support the fantastic work they do. I’ve also run Yoga in The Dark in support of the Royal National Institute for the Blind, Yoga for Peace for BWY and Yoga in support of the Alzheimer's Society.
I became the Owner and Manager of Bristol Yoga Centre in 2017. It has been a great privilege to work with our many wonderful teachers and see them develop.
My own teaching also evolved as I explored deeper into mindfulness meditation and therapeutic yoga. I embarked on my natural vision journey in 2020, and found even more transformative effects from Yoga, Bates Method, Somatic Movement and Mindfulness Meditation. I have incorporated these discoveries into my classes and now teach specialised Yoga for Vision.
I continue to teach yoga classes and bring a playful and explorative approach to help everybody find joy and healing through the practice.
